Short version: we collect the email address you give us, and the order record needed to deliver your books and honour the guarantee. We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising trackers on this site.
1. Who is responsible
Zyvio Labs (entreprise individuelle, RCS Paris 810 589 408), 231 rue Saint-Honoré, 75001 Paris, France, is the data controller. The controller's full legal identification is on the Legal notice page. Contact: privacy@theforgottenmanual.com.
2. What we collect, and why
When you buy
Your email address, the items you bought, the order reference and the date. We need these to deliver the files, reissue a lost download link, and process a refund. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
We never see your card details. Payment is handled by Stripe, which acts as merchant of record and processes card data on its own systems under its own privacy policy. Stripe also receives the email address you enter at checkout, in order to send your receipt and to meet its own tax and anti-fraud obligations.
When you ask for the sample chapter
Your email address only. We send the sample and the discount code. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Marketing email
We only send marketing email if you opted in. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and we act on it. Buyers receive a small number of service emails — download link, and one request for feedback a few weeks after purchase — as part of the purchase itself.
Analytics
We use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics that set no cookies and do not build a profile of you or follow you across sites. We see page views and referrers in aggregate, not individuals. That is why this site shows no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site works.
3. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data.
- We do not run advertising or social media tracking pixels.
- We do not use your data to train machine learning models.
4. Who else processes your data
Only the suppliers needed to run the shop: our payment and delivery provider, our email provider, and our hosting and analytics provider. Each acts on our instructions or as an independent controller for their own part of the transaction. We list them on request.
5. How long we keep it
Order records: ten years, the retention period French accounting law requires for commercial records. Marketing subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, and no more than three years after your last interaction with us, in line with CNIL guidance. Enquiries that never became orders: three years.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or send it elsewhere in a portable form. If you are in the EU or UK you may also complain to your data protection authority. If you are in California, you may request disclosure or deletion, and we do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@theforgottenmanual.com. We reply within 30 days and will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.
7. Security and transfers
The site runs over HTTPS and your book files are stored privately, reachable only through short-lived signed links tied to your order. Some of our suppliers are based in the United States; where data leaves your region we rely on the transfer safeguards those suppliers have in place.
8. Children
This shop is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we update the date at the top, and we tell subscribers by email if the change is significant.
